Bodrum & Fethiye & Oludeniz, Turkey (July 2021)
[Photos at the bottom of the page] I was feeling completely exhausted lately both personally and from work (as many other folks I know), so a much needed last minute vacation to the seaside was the right choice. We looked at last minute flight prices and conditions of entry from Switzerland to different countries in the Mediterranean and landed on Turkey, a country I have not been to before. We really enjoyed our stay there and I can sincerely recommend this part of Turkey (I will start with tips and the photos you can find below, as usual). As of July 2021 Turkey required a covid antigen or PCR test…

Greece – Crete (October 2020)
It took me a couple of months to write the article about Crete so I hope I still remember it well enough 🙂 This will be a shorter one. Tldr is that we loved Crete esp. for late spring or early autumn, prices are good and Greek food is amazing as usual. As of Oct 2020 since we travelled from Switzerland and we live there, were randomly tested for corona at the airport (check entry requirements for each country before going there). Budget Crete is rather on the cheap side if you compare it to other European beach destination like Italy, Spain, France or other. When should I visit? April…

Egypt: Marsa Alam / Quseer / Luxor (Dec 2020, country #38)
We just came back from Egypt and I booked tickets to go back..I usually almost never go back to the same place given my goal to visit every country in the world in my lifetime, but Egypt was quite smth! I also plan to visit some new places when I do go back. In short it is a perfect escape combo with the relaxed Maldives like waters of the Red sea, full of corals and underwater life, as well as an opportunity to see unique places such as Luxor, Aswan with a rich history, monuments, pharaohs tombs and learn about ancient Egypt mythology. As far as corona prevention measures (as…

Greece – Zakynthos (August 2020)
It’s August 2020 and this is our first holiday article of 2020, as we haven’t left this year anywhere outside Switzerland, the country we live in (due to the covid19 pandemic). Minutes from starting my work day from home, I decided to quickly share my impressions before I forget certain details 🙂 Before I start do keep in mind that due to covid19 there are special procedures for entering Greece (which vary based on where you are travelling from / your country of residency). As of August 2020, most of us entering Greece needed to fill out an online form which you can find at travel.gov.gr and keep the QR…

Costa Rica (Dec 2019, country #37)
We decided to take a longer holiday this December and Costa Rica, “the Switzerland of Latin America” seemed like the perfect choice from stories we heard from friends and some online research. Some key words to describe our 3+ weeks experience there: surfing, rafting, zipline, animal spotting, national parks, cloud forests, tropical fruits, beaches, mountains and in one word: ADVENTURE and a diverse range of activities, for all tastes. Budget required Costa Rica is considered one of the most expensive countries in Latin America, but we still found it quite affordable. As our vacation was long, we set up a 50$ budget per person per day which included accommodation, food…

Mexico city (Dec 2019, country #36)
As part of a month long holiday, my partner and I did a first stop in Mexico city, to finally visit my dearest friend Daniela whom I have met about 8 years ago. I didn’t have time to do much research about the city; however, I did ask a couple folks from my German class who are Mexican/have lived there about “must see” places, as we only had 4 days there (big thanks to Jaime & Andrea!). Generally, I would say that Mexico city is more of a cultural trip than anything else, especially for those interested in anthropology (Mayans & Aztecans, etc.); there is also a lot to see…

Bangalore, India (Oct 2019, country #35)
I went to India for a last minute work trip so I didn’t have time to see as much as I wished, but I will share with you what I learnt from my experience and try to be helpful. I was also there during Diwali, which together with Holi are one of the two biggest hindu holidays in India and I highly recommend choosing such a period to visit. Diwali date varies each year, based on the moon cycle; (mid Oct to mid Nov) and Holi date (late February to March). If you want to avoid rain, March is better 🙂 I got lucky with a last minute invitation for…

Puglia, Italy (Sept 2019)
I’m writing this article 2 weeks after the trip so I hope I can still remember it. Puglia is “the heel” of Italy. I really enjoyed this trip, it is more of a budget destination in comparison to other sea destinations in Europe. Besides having great beaches, good food, Puglia also has the nicest people I ever met and small towns with impressive architecture. Who is Puglia for? It is great for everyone, families, couples or group of friends. Is it expensive? As mentioned, it is more of a budget destination, esp. if we compare to Corsica (our previous sea holiday destination). I believe we paid for accommodation 2X more…

Corsica, France (August 2019)
This trip turned out to have an unexpected timing due to some events in the last few days before we left. Besides being an exciting travel experience as with any new place I visit, it was also therapeutic for me. Overall, I was happy with the beautiful beaches of Corsica (that reminded me a little bit of Maldives) and I’m recommending it with an open heart. The only downside is that it is a little on the pricier side, esp. accommodation, so try to book in advance if you go in summer. Who is Corsica for? Short answer is: family and couples and maybe groups of friends who like a…

Transylvania, Romania (June 2019)
We got invited to a wedding last weekend in Targu Mureș, Romania and we took the opportunity to tour a bit around Transylvania. My favorite places were by far Cluj and Sibiu and both have airports with low cost airlines. We rented our car from Klass Wagen in Cluj (book directly on their site!) and it only costed us 8 eur for 4 days (+25 eur for gas). We have previously used their services in another city of Romania and were equally satisfied. Day 1 & 2 Targu Mureș If you are around, make sure to visit the old town, as well as the largest zoo in Romania with a…
